    What is communism?

Communism comes under different labels over time, and for the most part how it is described in may economies in recent history is not in reality communism. First is an economic philosophy and system, and not a political system. It is even miss defined in some dictionaries as follows:

    Source: https://www.google.com/#q=communism+definition

a political theory derived from Karl Marx, advocating class war and leading to a society in which all property is publicly owned and each person works and is paid according to their abilities and needs.

The better definition is as follows without the political rhetoric.

    Source: http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/communism.html#ixzz3qvrhWwTH

Economic and social system in which all (or nearly all) property and resources are collectively owned by a classless society and not by individual citizens. Based on the 1848 publication 'Communist Manifesto' by two German political philosophers, Karl Marx (1818-1883) and his close associate Friedrich Engels (1820-1895), it envisaged common ownership of all land and capital and withering away of the coercive power of the state. In such a society, social relations were to be regulated on the fairest of all principles: from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs. Differences between manual and intellectual labor and between rural and urban life were to disappear, opening up the way for unlimited development of human potential.

This source goes on to explain the problem with describing recent governments and their economic systems as communist.

These governments and their economic systems are best described as strong authoritarian dictatorships. The economic system is a socialist command economy* centrally planned economy with pretty much absolute state ownership. It is sometimes referred to as State Mercantilism.

I may address later the similar and often associated economic system Socialism later, but for now I will address the issue of communism.

An interesting trivia question: Communism is in reality a very idealistic and unrealistic economic system, but . . .

The most ideal communist economic system is one in the west under the control of the US government. This system was very successful and ended for political reasons, not economic. What was this communist system?

If it benefits the collective good, then they may. Cross dressers need clothing.

    Can you answer the question?

The most ideal communist economic system is one in the west under the control of the US government. This system was very successful and ended for political reasons, not economic. What was this communist system?

Would he/it be an hairy ugly play toy in the Gulags?

    Frank,
You seem to be defining "Communism" with a capital "C", not the broader (even Christian) concept of "communism" with a minuscule "c". Was that supposed to be something you plan to take up later?

The capitalism of the word 'communism' should not be an issue. I am not certain as to how the broader (even Christian?) concept would be defined.

I gave two definitions, the first a common poor definition the word. The second amore accurate definition.

The misuse of the word 'communism' describes something that is not 'communism.'

An example in history of the problem is pogrom against 'communists' by the Joseph McCarthy era persecution of people using a broad definition. Now often called McCarthyism.

    Source: https://www.google.com/#q=mccarthyism

"McCarthyism is the practice of making accusations of subversion or treason without proper regard for evidence. It also means "the practice of making unfair allegations or using unfair investigative techniques, especially in order to restrict dissent or political criticism."
