(Yeah, the first pic is Frodo pulling Sam out of the water after Frodo decided to leave the Fellowship. The second is what you said. Great scenes, though not quite canonical, of course.

Don't worry...contrary to popular opinion, I am not really a complete Purist. Besides, I didn't get into Lord of the Rings myself until quite a while after TTT came out. In fact, I didn't even have a clue what it was about, and didn't really care either. 
I didn't know what I was missing... 
And actually, I think the movies are really good. They can't quite compare to the books (especially RotK) and they offended me greatly in some parts (grrr Faramir was not like that! Where was Bombadil? Where was Glorfindel?) But overall, I love them. And have watched them 100+ times.
