Re: January 2007 Screwballs
I'm adding this from him as well:
This is an example of why I don't tread in Apol 301 right now.The gospels and scriptures of the bible were altered dramatically by the early church. Augustine, Jerome and Ambrose added and subtracted from them at will. They left in what they though fitted and erased what they thought didn't.
Your bible is not the 'word of god' but the word of Augustine and Jerome.
We don't even know who wrote the gospels and none were written at the time of Jesus. They are all copies. If they were written by the likes of Mark and John then Mark would have been 70 years old and John would have been about 110 years old. Highly unlikely for a time when the average life span was 30 years.
As for eye witness accounts.....Paul doesn't even mention meeting Jesus in his Epistles.
The idiocy is so mind-numbing that it would turn the planet Vulcan into a funny farm.

Rook Hawkins gets one today, in response to P-Dunn linking him to JP's article on the definition of "faith" in the Bible:
Yes Rook, we all define Greek words with English dictionaries, too.

Reminder to self -- pladecalvo as nominee for 2007 TWeb Platinum Noob.
I've been looking over at that thread again. I really shouldn't.
It's not good for me.

Judging by your expressed beliefs, I am more Jewish than you are. The Jewish members here on tweb even said your faith is not in align with Judaism.

Re: January 2007 Screwballs
Got an email from this screwball, promoting his book:
http://www.amazon.com/Divine-Truth-H...e=UTF8&s=books
I searched for refs to the big scholars on this subject, Bauckham and Witherington -- nope. I wrote back telling him he wasn't qualified and got an email worthy of a Screwball Award:
His degree, by the way, is a Bachelor's in history. These comments only verify that arrogance is the prevailing spirit behind so many traditional orthodox doctrines. This attitude is dissapointing but extremely common.
I have read numerous books written in defense of the Trinity. I simply chose to interact with some of the most well-known and respected, contemporary theologians in the evangelical world. James White may be the most active protestant apologist in the world (50+ debates). I highly doubt that Baukham's and Witherington's arguments are much different than any of the scholars I interact with. I have been studying this issue for quite some time. I'm very familiar with all of the arguments used to support the Trinity. This subject is not a mystery. Hundreds, if not thousands, of books have been written on this subject. But I'd be happy to look into the ones you mention.
I should point out that it is very difficult to understand how you could describe me as "another unqualified person who has no idea what he's talking about." These comments do nothing to futher your own credibility, as you have not even read the book and do not even know who I am. To simply denounce another person because they do not agree with your theological conclusions is very easy. It obviously takes much more effort to deal with the material and evidence the other person presents. I have no problem with you disagreeing with me or others on this or any other subject (you don't even know what my positive beliefs are), but I encourage you, for the future, to do so with humility, gentleness and respect, as the Scriptures themselves instruct us.
