I watched Darth try to educate you and it was like seeing someone slip around in a room of banana peels as you hopped from one excuse to another trying to find a way that Paul, Jesus etc could call people names while golly gee, we can't.

"Duh, Jesus knew people's hearts and minds." Oh. So knowing people's hearts and minds permits one to use names. OK. Darth points out Paul wasn't that way, didn't know people's hearts and minds. Oops, sunk that criteria, but you sure don't want to admit it, do you?

By the rules of the day, they were doing it to be malicious. How's that grab you?

The purpose was public shame as well as protection of those who might be led astray. I'll claim both of those as the purpose of the Screwball Awards. Humor comes in third, with rebuttal to FSTDT as related to all three points. Spectators, I should add, often found these contests humorous.

The whole premise of public shame and riposte was laid out in the article Darth linked to in which one of my guest writers and I gave all the details. You ignored it. It's time to learn that Jesus was not "sanitized for your protection".

If I ever stop doing this sort of work, it won't be because of atheists -- it will be because of Christians like you who have incorrigible tunnel vision and have turned Jesus into Mr. Rogers.

DJ earns his first of 2007 for a thread titled: "The Arrogance of JP Holding and his Pied Pipers!"

The metaphor is wrong. The pied piper is the leader. The thread title should be, "JP Holding and his Rats of Hamelin".

The thread is interesting in that DJ's supposed moral high-ground unraveled after just a few posts. His opening post was prefaced thusly:

It's clear to all knowledgeable people that only a person having a small understanding of the issues will argue as if those who disagree are stupid.

Before the thread was even to its second page, he dropped this bomb on lilangelofterror:

You don't understand the slightest of distinctions, and that reveals a certain level of ignorance that can be described as stupid.

He stopped posting for a few pages, but then got right back into the swing of things:

[ApologiaNick] is an ignorant person who thinks he's intelligent. In moments of frustration what would you call him?

And if that wasn't enough, he pulls out the heavy artillery:

No one but the ignorant would claim that I am ignorant.

To me Nick is just like a very bad Karaoke singer but doesn't know he is one, so he continues to badly sing out his song of arguments

Because he's handicapped, Christians here won't tell him otherwise. He's going to study to be an apologist, but he will fall flat on his face. There are a great many people in ministry who will fall flat on their faces because no one told them the truth that they should not pursue such goals. Nick is one of them. But since Christians believe God can make clay into gold they encourage him in faith, even though deep down inside they really don't believe it.

Tell him the truth! Save him from pursuing what will be a dead end career for him.

Nick, when you realize you don't have the brain power for being an apologist and your hopes and dreams are dashed, and possibly even your faith, remember who told you the truth. It was me. Do something else with your life, and I'm serious.

Even his supporters in the thread stopped defending him after that one.

They're not all bad, (but they think only the early church and the early Quakers had the True Gospel^TM, and that the Kingdom of God comes whenever someone becomes a Christian) so I don't nominate this wholeheartedly.

Edit: Check that--they think Jesus still speaks audibly (from what I gathered) today, so they just started sounding a whole lot weirder. (to me, anyway)
