  • 5 Syrians caught entering Honduras.

Oy vey... I sure did not see this coming, and it has alarmed Latin Americans:

I am awares of how Syrians are attempting to get to the USA, but so far, this is the first known attempt in this part of the world ever since Syrians started flooding out of their homeland. Considering how close this is to my home, now I and the rest of Latin-Americans are now officially alarmed.

They are currently being held in immigration offices in Honduras, for the time being, they aren't going anywhere. As if the plague of organized crime and political corruption weren't enough, now Latin America is now dragged into this mess.... and it has me a bit uneasy, especially how we as Latin-Americans are to respond, especially with United States keeping a close eye on us.

Therein lies the concern I think, is those who would travel with stolen passports. Although it appears that these 5 were going illegally, and Thank God they were caught. I tend to think most Syrians fleeing are fleeing the blood bath that is their home and fleeing with their own ID's and passports, but yes, as in any situation where you have a mass immigration, there are those that would steal identity for anything from desperation to create a new life to hardened criminal action. (Hence why to accept refugees we would need to ramp up border security and do a thorough search, not turn migrants away all together)

And thank God they were only 5 and not 1,000's, I don't think central americans (and it's weak State institutions) would be able to handle such a tide. Aye, desperation truly drives folks to commit things outside the purview of what is civilized (The beginning of the story Les Miserables comes to mind with Jean Valjean's criminality).

So far, they have been identified, and turns out 4 of the 5 are actually college graduates from the National University of Syria, and one of them actually once taught classes in there! Doubt they will want to stay here in Central America, considering I live in one of the most criminally infested regions in the world where the odds of getting robbed or killed are pretty good.
