So... anyone else attempt to learn ballet?

Yeah, not quite what you'd expect a 39 year old man to suddenly take up. Honestly I would not have done so, but my wife (and now the kids) have been involved in ballet for the last several years, and I decided I'd join as a family thing. Once I got past my initial reservations I'm finding it a bit of a challenge to do better. I have no illusions of getting "good" but I have to say, it's way harder than it looks!

And before anyone challenges me, I belong to the NRA and drive a pickup truck. So there!

I do, but I haven't hurt myself with them. Yet.

I bought a circular saw a couple of years ago, and was amazed at fast I could could cut wood wrong. Never before had I been able to make mistakes so fast!

In my size, it'd be more like a four-four.

But no, no tights, not yet anyhow. I already wear spandex when on my road bike, so it'd not be that odd for me. Besides... if anyone gave me flack for wearing tights... Ever hear of the pink elephant joke? You know, where you ask someone to not think about a pink elephant? and to not picture its long nose, or its big ears, or its trumpetting bellow? Let's say I'd start my own variation on that joke...

              Is it your wife's pickup?

No. I managed to replace a door on my house and do some framing, but I'm perplexed when to building a shed.

There's no men in the dance company that the wife is in (I don't count as I'm useless), but she has been working on this piece with another dancer. Shortened and toned down a bit (ahem). Wifey and I went down to Boston to see a version of it. Have to admit to some desire of being able to someday come close to being able to do this. Wife would be quite pleased if I could join her hobby.

Forgot to mention: my son is involved in ballet also; he's 10 years old now. One of the other boys there has gotten picked on at school for being in ballet; luckily my son has not gotten picked on. Anyhow, this past summer I decided I'd do whatever it took to keep him in ballet. His last appointment with the specialist said he was doing quite well, and that the ballet might be helping him. You see, he has muscular dystrophy. He's really only got one shot at this sort of thing. If I have to swallow some pride in order to help him make the most of life, well, I'll do what it takes.

Weren't some professional football players involved in ballet some time back, because it was good stretching, balance, and all kinds of other stuff?

Would not surprise me. There's aspects of flexibility and timing. Strength might not be thought of, but you try balancing on the ball of your foot for more than a few seconds--especially while moving other parts of the body around. Then add in lifting a partner, or doing various leaps. It can be rather intense. Definitely an exercise in focusing.

Although be warned: the French can't spell. Every time I go to look up a term, it's not spelled anything like how it sounds...

Same dance studio that we are in does a couple of plays per year. Talk about work and effort! Hours and hours of rehearsals to get it right. Put the movie Noises Off into a whole new perspective for me.

I started re-collecting Lego It got a little out of control but am scaling back of late. Funny thing is, just a few years on and after building up a small room full it's now worth triple the value! So it's a matter of deciding what to let go of in order to free up space and generate some profit.

I did not start keeping bees until I was 40.
