We ask that nontheist participation respect the theistic views of others and not seek to undermine theism in general, or advocate for nontheism. • TWeb Bible Study Thread

Discussions about the rules/guidelines and what this thread will be all about can be found in this thread: http://www.theologyweb.com/campus/sh...ge-is-in-order (first relevant post)

For now, just post in the other thread (the one I linked above) if you're interested in joining this bible study. After we've figured out rules/guidelines for the study that most people are happy about we'll start discussing what bible passage we want to study first in this thread.

I would appreciate it if no one posts in this thread yet, until we're done with the discussion in the other thread, since I'm planning on using the second post in this thread to list the rules/guidelines that we settle on in the other thread

    1. Respectful dialogue (keep it insult-free). While healthy debate is encouraged, this is not the place for us to be kept up in minutiae. If the debate goes stale, move on to greener pastures. And for the non-Christians that decide to join (if there are any), this is not the place for you to attack the reliability or perceived moral failings in the Bible. Debating should be strictly about the proper interpretation and application of the chosen Bible passage.

    2. Non-Christians would be allowed to participate, as long as they are working under the assumption that what the Bible says is true (i.e, we would be discussing what the bible says, not debating whether any of it's teachings and descriptions of events are accurate)

    3. During the beginning of each session the participants choose a passage, and discuss it. At the end of the session we close the discussion, and begin choosing the passage for the next session.

I initially thought that sessions should be "time-constrained" so that we wouldn't spend forever on one single passage, but ultimately decided against it. We'll figure out how much time we want to spend on each passage as we go along.

I should probably also mention that the thread is open if you feel like posting here. If nothing else you can just post in order to get subscribed to the thread.

So it is fair to assume this will be a one verse [or topic of verses] at a time?
. . . the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; . . . -- Romans 1:16 KJV

. . . that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: . . . -- 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 KJV

Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: . . . -- 1 John 5:1 KJV

I don't know, I was thinking more like bigger sections of scripture (passages/pericopes), rather than just a single verse.

Also, my suggestion as to the initial section for this study would be Colossians 1:9-14. Please feel free to come up with other suggestions as well.

                        Scripture Verse: Col 1:9-20 NA26

Me too. I can pick out only a few words. What I can see, even without that, is that you picked out less than a full sentence in the original Greek. Should we expand the selection?

I should have thought to put it there before I posted.

I think it has to do with me using the HCSB while browsing biblegateway, In HCSB Col 1:9-14 (Titled: Prayer for Spiritual Growth in HCSB) and 1:15-20(23) (The Centrality of Christ) are split into two different sections. I'm fine with expanding it to also include Paul's "poem" about Christ, i.e up to verse 20.
