What's your favorite Genre?

Re: What's your favorite Genre?
Surrealism. Magritte in particular.
To rebel against a powerful political, economic, religious, or social establishment is very dangerous and very few people do it, except, perhaps, as part of a mob. To rebel against the "scientific" establishment, however, is the easiest thing in the world, and anyone can do it and feel enormously brave, without risking as much as a hangnail. Thus, the vast majority, who believe in astrology and think that the planets have nothing better to do than form a code that will tell them whether tomorrow is a good day to close a business deal or not, become all the more excited and enthusiastic about the bilge when a group of astronomers denounces it.

Re: What's your favorite Genre?
I won't get snarky and point out some of the fab art occurring in comics these days, but I voted for impressionism. I studied the movement when I was at high school.
I have a pet theory that I like impressionism because of my poor eyesight; impressionistic art is how I see the world without my specs!
JLather, rinse, repeat.

I don't know that I can categorize art except for very broadly into "Art I like" and "Art I don't care for." Case in point: I don't normally like expressionist art, but The Scream has always caught my attention since the first time I saw it.

Although it's rather broad for a genre, I prefer book illustrations.

Re: What's your favorite Genre?
I like impressionism, but... too much scenery, in my opinion. How many times can you paint a lake and a dock until it becomes unoriginal?
But I love realism, Raphael in particular.

Re: What's your favorite Genre?
I clicked Cubism when I meant to click "other".
I like alot of Cubist stuff, but what's really close to my heart is the sort of stark, lines and planes stuff. The geometric sculptures of Calder, for instance....the compass of existence held more than my text-books had revealed, more than I had ever dreamed of. In short I lost my superiority, and this, though I was not then aware of it, is the first step towards finding God.-A.J. Cronin

Some favorites
Alfred Gockel

I just love art really, anything I like, I like, which is usually not realism or things that a 5 year old can paint with his eyes closed.Last edited by Binkster; August 1st 2008 at 09:41 AM.
