Is This a Good Laptop Deal?
Office Depot is having a sale on this Toshiba Satelite laptop. Is this a good deal or will the cheap be more costly in the long run?

It has a $200 rebate on it so it'd end up being $349, plus there are a few other things you can get for free for spending that amount of money in their store this week.
I know it's RAM is low especially to be running Vista, but would it be a decent deal to buy it, immediately put a gig of RAM in it and chuck the 512 Mb (or sell it or something), and just run windows XP on it? I don't so anything big time on the computer but blog check emails, and do stuff for school.
I read somewhere last week though that Toshiba laptops are junk. Is that true?

Re: Is This a Good Laptop Deal?
The link doesn't seem to show a laptop, but Toshiba laptops are used at work (not by me) but this might indicate reasonable quality.
Then the 512 meg of RAM might be fine, you might give it a try first, if you buy it...I don't so anything big time on the computer but blog check emails, and do stuff for school.
I'm sure they have some lemons, as do all manufacturers. Reading reviews, you have to be a little cautious, because generally it's the people with complaints who post their views, and the conclusion often is if theirs was a lemon, everyone's is. Howsabouts you check Consumer Reports at your local library?I read somewhere last week though that Toshiba laptops are junk. Re: Is This a Good Laptop Deal?
link doesn't work
for what you want to do, its fine.
but yea 512 ram will not run vista unelss you turn all the features off. To help this you can add a flash memory drive which vista can use as ram now, which is a cool feature.
or get the 1 gig. but 1 gig laptop ram is expensive i think. 100 or 200 dollars.
if you put in xp, the 512 is fine for what you do.
I would have to know the model and stuff to comment on how good the laptop is.
However, for the price, you really can't beat it if you are just going to surf the net, emails and do school. The rambler of ramblers!
