Celebrating the Gifts of Christmas 2015…
Today we celebrate the Gift of the Christmas Message. I know Jesus came into the world for ALL people of All ages in All lands in All times. But he also came especially for YOU and for ME! The birth of Jesus as “Emmanuel” is God’s personal message to each of us that when life challenges us He is WITH US.
After seeing the cardiologist yesterday Patti and I drove the 45 miles home through the busy suburbs of Detroit struggling for a sense of security and peace. The news wasn’t bad it just wasn’t what we wanted to hear. Has that ever happened to you? Faith tells us to place our lives in God’s Hands yet at the same time life is always there to challenge faith to a tug-of-war.
Advent for me is a time set aside for us to deliberately “snuggle up” with the Holy Spirit and allow the Christmas Message to come to life in us which ALWAYS turns the tide on life and suddenly the tug-of-war ends with life losing the match. I have struggled (my personal tug-of-war) the last couple of days to find the right words to write (I even missed a couple of days this week) but this morning during my private time a Christmas Message sliced through the rope and sent life flying backwards.
While the Christmas Message is the same for ALL of us—God is WITH US, it comes in many different ways because God is a Master at Communicating, touching each of us in a unique way. The Christmas Message I needed today comes from the assurance that God is with the two of us. (I hope you can draw some assurance from it as well.)
“LORD, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing. You guard all that is mine. The land (life) you have given me is a pleasant land (life). What a wonderful inheritance! I will bless the LORD who guides me; even at night my heart instructs me. I know the LORD is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me. No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice… You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.” (Psalm 16:5–9, 11, NLT, emphasis mine)
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might!
Grace and PEACE, Amen!
Gary
