    Your link says otherwise:

"Republicans aren’t impressed with the idea, though Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), true to form, is going further than most. At an event late last week hosted by the Family Research Council, a leading group in the religious right movement, the far-right Texan told the audience of conservative pastors:
“This year, I’m sorry to tell you, the United States Senate is going to be voting on a constitutional amendment to repeal the First Amendment.”
If you listen to the clip, note that the audience gasps in horror, as if they’d just heard something genuinely shocking, leading Cruz to add, “I am telling you, I am not making this up.”

Actually, he is making this up. There are good and bad arguments surrounding an amendment on campaign financing, but there is no proposal on the table to “repeal the First Amendment.”

Cruz added that the amendment would give Congress the “unlimited authority” to “regulate political speech.” As he probably knows, that’s plainly not true, either.

But of particular interest was the right-wing senator telling the assembled church pastors that the amendment would empower Congress “to muzzle each and every one of you.” Cruz was lying, but it’s an interesting kind of lie.
    "

Also it's more than a year old. Did you even read it?

While it claims there is a vote to repeal the first amendment, the text fails to support that claim.

Is there actually a proposal to repeal the first amendment, or are you merely a belated scaremonger?

edited to add: you forgot to confirm that you had/hadn't read the link you posted.

I had not read them through prior to your question in that regard. I had not heard of this until yesterday. A notable radio talk show host mentioned it yesterday of all things. An interviewer at a major university did a [mock] petition to repeal it and it was video taped just this month. [ Video not family friendly]

Rush Limbaugh. But I do not know if it was from a live show or previous broadcast. The info on the
interview was found on a Google search.

Practically speaking, almost nobody is a First Amendment absolutist. Few people would defend laws against extortion, threats, slander, etc. even though these contradict a literal reading of the First Amendment.

Unless, of course, there actually was a fire.

For some reason this always reminds me of the joke where the guy is trying to distract the firing squad by trying to tell them there's a fire.
