But of particular interest was the right-wing senator telling the assembled church pastors that the amendment would empower Congress “to muzzle each and every one of you.” Cruz was lying, but it’s an interesting kind of lie."

While it claims there is a vote to repeal the first amendment, the text fails to support that claim.

Is there actually a proposal to repeal the first amendment, or are you merely a belated scaremonger?

I agree with Roy. You need to read carefully and cite your sources accurately, and avoid selected biased interpretations as at least one of your sources did. Also, it would be good to check out primary sources.

I had not read them through prior to your question in that regard. I had not heard of this until yesterday. A notable radio talk show host mentioned it yesterday of all things. An interviewer at a major university did a [mock] petition to repeal it and it was video taped just this month. [ Video not family friendly]

Practically speaking, almost nobody is a First Amendment absolutist. Few people would defend laws against extortion, threats, slander, etc. even though these contradict a literal reading of the First Amendment.
