  • Why is psychologolically torturing people considered family fun?

Why do so many people on the internet seek out crazy people on the internet to psychologically torture, to get them to chimp out? I know many of these people who they're messing with have bad personalities and have done something horrible, such as child molesters, but others haven't, or are just assumed to have done something bad to justify the trolling. For example there was a little girl with progeria that people were making pages about saying she was an alien, and then much worse things. Somebody claimed that the mother was exploiting her, to make it seem like what they were doing was justified somehow. However, this didn't end up being true.

The scary thing about it is that it's not just 13 year olds doing this, it's adults well into their fifties and older also. Some of them even work in psychology fields, or counselors, or places to help the disabled well they spend their free time on the computer making fun of disabled people or helping somebody else do it. If somebody has qualms with it, they're called a "moralfg." It's so popular that people are getting tv shows for it.

I know, people do worse things. It's messed up how it's became mainstream though.

I have never really heard of it online or mainstream. But I wouldn't even give it attention.

It's the same sort of people who hacked into an epilepsy support website and put flashing lights up.
"I am not angered that the Moral Majority boys campaign against abortion. I am angry when the same men who say, "Save OUR children" bellow "Build more and bigger bombers." That's right! Blast the children in other nations into eternity, or limbless misery as they lay crippled from "OUR" bombers! This does not jell." - Leonard Ravenhill

On the Internet trolling is done so frequently because the troll is anonymous and faces no consequences. It's actually an interesting (and very sad) display of human nature--given such freedom human beings don't necessarily behave with compassion but when the civilizing forces of society are gone their heart is exposed and its an ugly sight.

And just as a reflection--perhaps we don't see human evil as such a problem because there are effective limits and controls placed on us. But God sees what's in our hearts. Makes you appreciate Jesus's sacrifice even more.

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8 NIV).

The thing is, people don't even care about being anonymous anymore. They come out in the open, hoping to get famous by it. Evil stuff like this has been around before the internet, and there's worse things, but it doesn't mean it's right.

The moral perversity or decadence of a culture or society are not stagnant. The pervasive morally degenerative phenomenon we are witnessing at present may be referred to as progressive depravity. There should be little difficulty in accepting this notion; it is simply the logical corollary to progressive sanctification. As persons may progress in their journey towards holiness (thus becoming more Christ-like), persons may likewise sink to new lows of depravity (thus becoming more like Satan). While human sin is a constant throughout history, some generations are more perverse than others.
