Glory Seed Devotionals, 2016: Expedition of Light and Truth
We are encourager’s and comforter’s…
“Then the LORD commissioned Joshua son of Nun with these words: “Be strong and courageous, for you must bring the people of Israel into the land I swore to give them. I will be with you.”” (Deuteronomy 31:23, NLT)
Yesterday I said we’re not Joshua nor are we today and we’ve not been given the responsibility of leading anyone to the promised land. Nevertheless, we have experienced adversities and hardships, we’ve been to hell and back (figuratively speaking), we’ve have experienced poverty, and sufficiency therefore we’re in a position to encourage others who are where we were. We have the ability to be a light on someone else’s darkened path.
One of the most dangerous emotions we humans experience is loneliness yet strange as it may sound when hardships befall us we have a tendency to separate ourselves. Case in point, “Elijah was afraid and fled for his life. He went to Beersheba, a town in Judah, and he left his servant there. Then he went on alone into the wilderness, traveling all day. He sat down under a solitary broom tree and prayed that he might die…” (1 Kings 19:3–4, NLT)
In spite of his attempt throw himself a one man pity-party God sent an angel to be with him and minister to him. At the end of chapter 4 of the book of Hebrews, we are told Jesus is a-been-there-experienced-that-got-past-it encourager. We’re certainly not Jesus nor an angel either however, we are a-been-there-experienced-that-got-past-it encouragers and because we are the apostle Paul’s words come alive in us. “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.” (2 Corinthians 1:3–4, NLT)
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might!
Grace and PEACE, Amen!
Gary
