Home Economics 101

Welcome to the Home Ec Section. Matters of the family sometimes bring joy and other times bring grief. But it is never trivial: Family matters! Feel free to discuss topics such as the sanctity of marriage; the awesome responsibility of raising children; the struggles of communication problems; the grief of losing a loved one; or anything else that relates to the home and family. However, due to the more personal nature of this section, I ask that you would be especially thoughtful of the readers' feelings. My earnest hope and prayer is that the discussions in this section will help families grow in the love of Christ.

But remember, always play by the rules: here

Does it need to be refrigerated for 4 hours before rolling out? I do keep the dough as cold as possible.

Hrm. It may not matter how well I keep the dough cold...refrigeration must make it stick together better for rolling out.

I buy frozen crusts. So can't help you.

I do sometimes. But nothing like homemade, and the way prices are, it's better.

I prefer homemade. I like being able to pronounce what goes in the crust. Also DB grate the butter. It makes it easier to work with, no refridgeration required and I make a double crust in the food processor

I only make pie maybe once a year, so am not overly concerned about what is in the ingredients that I can't pronounce.

And when I DO make homemade crust, I use my mother's recipe with lard. Much better than butter.

Grating the butter? Hm, does it have to be frozen?
