7 letter word - change 1 letter
article
This game will be hard; but the game has a definite winner.
Each post in the thread is either correct, or incorrect. The rules determine which posts are correct.
The winner is the first correct post to appear in the thread with no other correct post subsequent for more than 24 hours. Everyone who has participated in the game up to that point must send the winner 10 pearls.
The umpire will identify the winner. I am the umpire.
Rules
- The first word of the post must be a seven letter word that can be found in the Webster's online dictionary.
- The first word of the post must not be a repeat of the first word in any previous correct post of the thread.
- The first word of the post must have at least six letters in common with the first word of the most recent previous correct post in the thread.
Note that there's nothing actually wrong with posts deemed to be incorrect. You can, for example, post to argue over the interpretation of rules, and whether or not a particular post in the thread is correct, or attempt to identify the most recent correct post. Such discussion posts will, usually, be incorrect!
If anyone actually claims to have given a winning post -- that is, the first correct post that is not followed by any other correct post for more than 24 hours -- then the umpire (me) will step in to declare whether or the claim is valid.
This post, by the way, is correct. Check out the first word, and good luck.
Cheers -- Sylas

"Years ago, I mean decades ago, I read a quote about politicians performing quid pro quo favors for campaign cash, and whether or not we could prove it. The guy who was quoted opined that it was difficult to determine. He noted that in many cases, the payoff might not take the form of votes on legislative action -- those might be detectable, and so are avoided -- but could take subtler forms, like the question that is never asked at a hearing.
The media's doing a terrific job of not asking questions it doesn't want to know the answer to. It doesn't ask these questions in bulk, and the great volume of questions it doesn't ask makes it cheap to not ask questions.
And it passes these savings on to you, the customer." Ace

Sylas, is it OK if I bow out of this game? I don't know why I got into it in the first place seeing how I'm going on vacation and can't play soon.

limited
You can't buy out now; you're commited. You are obliged to give ten pearls to whoever wins. Try to skip town, and we'll send Bubba after you with a baseball bat, but without his meds. This is going longer than I expected; there are a lot of words around with seven letters! The game might still be going when you get back.
For those following along... so far we have
article → trickle → reticle → tickler → pickler → prickly → brickly → briskly → riskily → silkier → milkier → limiter → delimit → limitedLast edited by sylas; April 25th 2007 at 07:13 AM.

Elitism, that's what this game promotes!
"Yes, I'm quite concerned about health care issues surrounding leaked radiation from Japan. Now, please pass me my super sized, bacon double cheeseburger, combo meal..."
When I was young I admired clever people. Now that I'm older I admire kind people.~Rabbi Abraham Heschel
My most recent faith struggle is not one of intellect. I don't really do that anymore. Sooner or later you just figure out there are some guys who don't believe in God and they can prove He doesn't exist, and some other guys who can prove He does exist, and the argument stopped being about God a long time ago and now it's about who is smarter, and honestly, I don't care. ~ Don Miller Blue Like Jazz
