Re: Catalog your Books!
Well, I dunno... doesn't it seem like just another way to show off? "Ooh, look how many books I've read!"
It was fun to do, but... I can't see me getting any real use out of it.

Re: Catalog your Books!
And isn't it self-absorbed? One reason I never liked blogging is that it's self-centered - the assumption is that other people actually care what you think, which is a mighty presumptuous and pompous thing to assume! Isn't this the same thing? Like, get real; no one cares what books I've read. The only reason for me to do it is so I can get some perverted self-satisfaction out of pretending or hoping I'm important enough that someone actually cares what books I own.
Sigh. I'm glad I'm going fishing tomorrow.

Re: Catalog your Books!
Actually, I think it's nice to see what books others have. A book seen here might look interesting, and I can ask the owner about it before dashing off to buy/borrow it.
There's also an option to make your profile private, which hides your library from view.

Re: Catalog your Books!
And it also seems like yet another way to label people (and thereby dehumanize them): "You own that book? Oh, I see; you must be this type of person." As if human personalities are so simple to define and categorize.
And, my butt is itchy.
In any case, I made my collection 'private'... for now.
(Sorry. Am I really too cynical? That's why Hemingway is on my 'favourite authors' list.

Re: Catalog your Books!
I am really enjoying this. I added a few more, most of which aren't shared by anyone. I am now going to look for peeps with similar interests and hope to find some books that I may not be aware of. This could be a great resource. I could also see using this if you need a particular portion from a rarer book, you can contact someone who has it and see if they are kind of enough to scan a portion for you. I would do that for someone if I had a hard to find book.

Re: Catalog your Books!
Well, the Tuck cycle sure happened fast...
I never even had a chance to see what sort of cool books he has.
Oooh... wow. That's pretty hardcore.
Which is worse: the way you do it, or the fact that my wishlist has around 500 books on it?
Same here. Which is why it really ticks me off when books don't have bibliographies. (I'd mention DJ's as an example, but you specified "good points", so...
)
I opted to follow your lead. I knew I'd do it eventually, but I figure I might as well take a year as a trial before going lifetime.
Me too. I uploaded a bunch of extra books now, and I think I need more good books to counterbalance the Pat Robertson, Herbert Armstrong, and futurist eschatology.
That's a really great idea. I may have to keep that in mind."If God has given [his people] such joy now, joy in their faith, in their hope, in love, in the truth of his scriptures, what kind of joy is he preparing for them at the end? If he feeds them like this on the journey, how will he feast them in their homeland?"--Augustine of Hippo

They must be too wimpy to handle our collective awesomeness.
