Transliteration:
kai ek tou kapnou exēlthon akrides eis tēn gēn, kai edothē autais exousia hōs echousin exousian hoi skorpioi tēs gēs.
Translation (ESV):
Then from the smoke came locusts on the earth, and they were given power like the power of scorpions of the earth.
Analysis (Zerwick):
ἀκρίς : locust.
σκορπίος : scorpion.

καὶ ἐρρέθη αὐταῖς ἵνα μὴ ἀδικήσουσιν τὸν χόρτον τῆς γῆς οὐδὲ πᾶν χλωρὸν οὐδὲ πᾶν δένδρον, εἰ μὴ τοὺς ἀνθρώπους οἵτινες οὐκ ἔχουσι τὴν σφραγῖδα τοῦ θεοῦ ἐπὶ τῶν μετώπων.
Transliteration:
kai errethē autais hina mē adikēsousin ton chorton tēs gēs oude pan chlōron oude pan dendron, ei mē tous anthrōpous hoitines ouk echousi tēn sphragida tou theou epi tōn metōpōn.
Translation (ESV):
They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any green plant or any tree, but only those people who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads.
Analysis (Zerwick):
ἐρρέθη : aorist passive of λέγω tell : ἐρρέθη αὐταῖς they were told.
ἵνα : for objective infinitive.
ἀδικήσουσιν : future of ἀδικέω injure, harm ; future for aorist subjunctive after ἵνα.
χόρτος : grass.
χλωρός : green.
δένδρον : tree.
εἰ μή : except ; in Aramaic ella which also means but : the sense required here.
οἵτινες : such as.
σφραγίς : seal.
μέτωπον : forehead.

Transliteration:
kai edothē autois hina mē apokteinōsin autous, allƠ hina basanisthēsontai mēnas pente, kai ho basanismos autōn hōs basanismos skorpiou hotan paisȩ̄ anthrōpon.
Translation (ESV):
They were allowed to torment them for five months, but not to kill them, and their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it stings someone.
Analysis (Zerwick):
ἐδόθη : aorist passive of δίδωμι ; (sc., e.g., ἐξουσία) ἐδόθη αὐτοῖς ἵνα μὴ ἀποκτείνωσιν αὐτούς, ἀλλ᾿ ἵνα it was granted to them not to ... but to ...
ἀποκτείνωσιν : aorist (or present subjunctive) of ἀποκτείνω kill.
βασανισθήσονται : future passive of βασανίζω examine by torture, hence generally torture.
μήν : month.
πέντε = 5.
βασανισμός : torture.
παίσῃ : aorist subjunctive of παίω hit ; of an insect, sting.

Transliteration:
kai en tais hēmerais ekeinais zētēsousin hoi anthrōpoi ton thanaton kai ou mē heurēsousin auton, kai epithymēsousin apothanein kai pheugei ho thanatos ap' autōn.
Translation (ESV):
And in those days people will seek death and will not find it. They will long to die, but death will flee from them.
Analysis (Zerwick):
ζητήσουσιν : future of ζητέω seek.
οὐ μὴ εὑρήσουσιν : (future of εὑρίσκω find) for aorist subjunctive, emphatic negation of future action.
ἐπιθυμήσουσιν : future of ἐπιθυμέω desire, long.

they had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the noise of their wings was like the noise of many chariots with horses rushing into battle.

Transliteration:
echousin ep' autōn basilea ton aggelon tēs abyssou, onoma autō̧ Hebraisti Abaddōn, kai en tȩ̄ Hellēnikȩ̄ onoma echei Apollyōn
Translation (ESV):
They have as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit. His name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek he is called Apollyon.
Analysis (Zerwick):
ἐπ᾿ αὐτῶν : over them.
βασιλέα : predicate as king.
ἄβυσσος -ου, ἡ : abyss referring to Sheol.
ὄνομα αὐτῷ : "the name to him is", his name is.

Ἡ οὐαὶ ἡ μία ἀπῆλθεν· ἰδοὺ ἔρχεται ἔτι δύο οὐαὶ μετὰ ταῦτα.
Transliteration:
hĒ ouai hē mia apēlthen; idou erchetai eti dyo ouai meta tauta.
Translation (ESV):
The first woe is past; two other woes are yet to come.
Analysis (Zerwick):
οὐαί : alas for ! woe to ! ἡ οὐαί the woe.
ἡ μία : for πρώτη, cardinal for ordinal number, encouraged by Hebraic idiom.*
*As in Hebrew the days of the month are denoted by the cardinal numbers, so too in the NT the first day of the week (Sunday) is μίαν σαββάτων (Mt 28:1: εἰς μίαν σαββάτων). A similar Hebraism is to be found in Rev 9:12: ἡ οὐαὶ ἡ μία ἀπῆλθεν = "the first woe ..." (BG ¶154).

Transliteration:

Translation (ESV):
saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, "Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates."

Translation (ESV):
The number of mounted troops was twice ten thousand times ten thousand; I heard their number.
Analysis (Zerwick):
ἀριθμός : number.
στράτευμα, -ατος, τό : army ; also a force of troops.
ἱππικός : cavalry.
δισμυριάς, -άδος, ἡ = 20,000.
μυριάς = 10,000.

ἵππος : horse.
ὅρασις : sight ; vision.
καθημένους : participle of κάθημαι be sitting : οἱ κάθημαι ἐπ᾿ αὐτῶν their riders.
ἔχοντας : participle of ἔχω have, translate with.
θώραξ, -ακος, ὁ : a breastplate.
πύρινος, η, ον : of the color of fire.
ὑακίνθινος : of saphire.
θειώδης : of sulfur.
λέων, -οντος, ὁ : lion.
ἐκπορεύομαι : come out, issue.
καπνός : smoke.
θεῖον : sulfur.

NA27 Text (Revelation 9:18):
ἀπὸ τῶν τριῶν πληγῶν τούτων ἀπεκτάνθησαν τὸ τρίτον τῶν ἀνθρώπων, ἐκ τοῦ πυρὸς καὶ τοῦ καπνοῦ καὶ τοῦ θείου τοῦ ἐκπορευομένου ἐκ τῶν στομάτων αὐτῶν.
Transliteration:
apo tōn triōn plēgōn toutōn apektanthēsan to triton tōn anthrōpōn, ek tou pyros kai tou kapnou kai tou theiou tou ekporeuomenou ek tōn stomatōn autōn.
Translation (ESV):
By these three plagues a third of mankind was killed, by the fire and smoke and sulfur coming out of their mouths.
Analysis (Zerwick):
τριῶν : genitive of τρεῖς three.
πληγή : (< πλήσσω strike) wound ; metonymy plague.
ἀπεκτάνθησαν : aorist passive of ἀποκτείνω kill.
τὸ τρίτον : a third (part).
