I'm still not seeing the injustice - and the rules weren't 'twisted' - you can't twist rules that don't exist.
As for 'inevitably' I'd normally agree - but I'm unsure if the Democratic party will survive should Trump win in 2020, which [ WAY TOO EARLY in the game to call, I know!] it looks like he well might. The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy...returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. McConnell didn't twist or distort the rules - he defied convention but this ain't the UK. Neither 'broke' the rules - both were unfair.
Indeed, I would argue that if there was anything unfair, it was the people who were doing the filibuster--the Republicans in this case. The way things are supposed to work is simple: If you get a majority of the House and Senate to pass a bill, and the president signs it, it's law (similarly, a majority leads to confirmations). But the filibuster is a way to get around that and make it so you need 60% instead of 51%. This was absolutely not intended by the framers; if they wanted to require 60%, they would have required 60%. As far as i can tell, there was no usage of the filibuster in the first 50 or so years of our country--in fact, the ability to filibuster in the first place was only created by accident about two decades after the start of the Senate.
