As I say to my wife and children, "what you see is not necessarily the truth, especially when you are making assumptions about the motivations of other people."

You "perception" is coming from you - not me. Do with that what you wish.

Maybe the problem is with the way you present yourself? I don't think I am the only one who saw it the way I did.

My perception is that you have too many instances of "you" in that post.

You guys are way out of line. When Jesus spoke about the pharisee in that verse, it was not meant to be a weapon to use against other people when or if they dare to promote common decency or basic morality. It was not meant as a means to deflect or cover up our own sins. It was a caution to ourselves not to be self-righteous. The way you have used it against Carpe is shameful. He was not flaunting himself as a paragon of virtue. He was just holding up a better standard than the mud-slinging that defines these conversations, and he does not deserve the sort if self-righteous attack you've hurled at him. And yes, self-righteous. As in, how dare someone else tell us what we are doing is or could be wrong. As in how dare someone imply there could be something wrong with our behavior.

My brethren, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism. James 2:1

If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not  bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is worthless James 1:26

This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; James 1:19

You have to learn to accept the detection of your attitude as sensed by other people. Your own blind spots so readily missed. You are missing the chance to correct your behavior.

At least this is the message you gave in another thread.

I can't speak for the others here, but you've managed to wholly miss my intent. Speaking of mud-slinging, the irony here is palpable.

I'm sure you aren't. Indeed, pretty much everyone who engages exactly as I was challenging objected to my posts and their message.

                    CP was the sole exception.

My message was fairly simple - the behavior of calling other people names, ridiculing them, and condescending to them does nothing to add to our general civic discourse. It is destructive and undermining. It has become the norm - and it needs to be challenged. I am setting out to challenge it in my own posts - and in those I see around me.

Those who want to try to make the discussions more adult and more civil - awesome.

Those who feel justified in the continuance of the same-old-same-old...there's nothing more I can say. If that makes me arrogant or smug...

All I can say is it is not offered in a spirit of arrogance or smugness - and it is not offered in a spirit of superiority. It is offered in a mutual challenge for all of us to transcend what has become the status quo - listen to one another - and accept that though we may differ in means - we are much alike in motive.

I'm disappointed in Trump: Fraudulent hot tubs aren't up to the level of fraudulent universities and fraudulent charities and fraudulent taxes like Trump does, and Trump told us he only hires the best people. He's slipping on the level of his criminals / cabinet appointees.

To answer your question: I'd be pleased and very pleasantly surprised. Trump administration officials not being absurdly corrupt, and instead rising to the bar of doing a run-of-the-mill job at their jobs would be a nice change.

To ask you the opposite question: Assuming he does the opposite and does all the things that you seem to agree would be bad with regard to interference with the Mueller investigation, what would your response be? Are you such a dyed-in-the-wool Trump cultist that it wouldn't shake your fervent faith one iota?
No, I'll admit I was wrong, and might start pushing for POTUS Pence.

Trump does not have the authority to choose the Acting Attorney General. He can, of course, nominate Hot-Tub-Conman Whitaker for the position of Attorney General and await Senate confirmation, but the choice of Acting Attorney General isn't up to him. This law dates back to the bad old days of Watergate and was put in place to stop presidents doing a Nixon.
                            Turley disagrees.

Even if that federal law hadn't existed, there's pretty powerful constitutional arguments to be made that because the constitution specifies that the Attorney General position requires Senate confirmation, the president can't simply stick a random person into the position without such Senate confirmation. Multiple legal scholars are expressing this view in media outlets currently, and SCOTUS Justice Clarence Thomas made precisely this argument last year in a concurring opinion.
On this Turley agrees, but notes the point will be moot if POTUS moves expeditiously in naming a permanent replacement.
