I was arguing with a guy on facebook who has two degrees in History and was complaining because he could not find a job. I asked him about working as a teacher and he said, he didn't want to work as a teacher. Other than working as a teacher or in some Museum, where does he think he will get a job with a Masters in History?

But somehow it was all Trump's fault he couldn't find work and Trump was lying about creating jobs.

And these same liberals say we should let in thousands of immigrants into the country. What jobs do they think they will get? All that will happen is they will make it even harder for the illegal immigrants already here to get any work. It just makes everyone poorer.

You absolutely can still get some office jobs with a degree in history or English or whatever. You just have to write good cover letters, follow up professionally, and network/keep in touch if/when the normal application doesn't pan out.

That said, I have a degree in history. I was told in high school that any degree would set me up for success; it doesn't matter what you major in. Obviously, that's not true, but 17 and 18 year old kids are too stupid to realize that most of the time. Government schools just want as many of their students to go to college, because then they can say they sent X% of their graduates to higher education and why would you even think about cutting funding? Public school advisors, the ones coming into class and giving these "you need to go to college" presentations are so useless.

When I was in the Navy, I worked with an enlisted guy who had a degree in Ancient Greek Civilization. One of my officers had a degree in English literature. They both had to pass Nuke school to work with me.

Having a 4-year college degree, any degree, can get you in the door for some generic office jobs, but you do need some aptitude or skill in the actual job you are trying to get if you want to get hired. Also having a college degree qualifies you for officer training if you join the military.

I think a lot of college kids have a romanticized idea about what kind of job they can get with something like a history or literature degree and aren't prepared for the fact that they're not highly marketable professions.
