The attempts to equate the current impeachment circus with Watergate are just downright nutty.

Jim, that's just nutty -- you can't find any account of Nixon's impeachment (attempt) that doesn't start with Watergate.

Because there was an actual crime that was absolutely undeniable.

This is why you have to keep pretending that Nixon's impeachment (attempt) wasn't triggered by an actual crime. A REAL crime. A crime nobody disputes happened, or what it was.

No account of Richard Nixon glosses over the fact that his downfall began with the actual crime of the break-in. An actual REAL crime, not an alleged one.
So if someone makes an allegation against you all you have to do is successfully obstruct any investigation attempts and you’d be fine?

I would’ve thought there would be some sort of law against that.

My whole discussion is answering JimL's nutty use of the Nixon impeachment (process) to compare with Trump's. I'm simply pointing out that in the Nixon situation, there was an actual crime that nobody was disputing that triggered the impeachment process.

But, if somebody makes an allegation against me, I'd demand that they prove it. Actual facts, not just a bunch of hype and circus.

No, for using the power of his office to influence the FBI into shuting down an investigation, i.e for attempting to obstruct justice, which btw is obstruction of justice.

True, Trumps crime is far worse than Nixons, although there are similarities.

You're totally missing it, Jim. You can't just call "bad actions" a crime. In Nixon's case, it was absolutely indisputable. With you, it's just hype.

If, indeed, Trump's "crimes" were "far worse than Nixon's", then your puppetmasters wouldn't need a room full of lawyers to try to help them con the American people into believing it was a real crime.

There is, intimidation of witnesses in an attempt to keep them from testifying is criminal obstruction of justice

If it's that clear-cut, then why are they Democrats having such a hard time conning the American people into believing that.

HEY!!!! They should have YOU go on the speaking circuit to SPLAIN it all!!!!

It's not a crime against the accused until it is proven, CP. That's why there's a trial, in this case in the Senate.

On Saturday, July 27, the House Judiciary Committee approved its first article of impeachment charging President Nixon with obstruction of justice. Six of the Committee's 17 Republicans joined all 21 Democrats in voting for the article. The following Monday the Committee approved its second article charging Nixon with abuse of power. The next day, the third and final article, contempt of Congress, was approved.

The impeachment process was in full swing when Nixon resigned. Perhaps you're confusing the impeachment process in the House (which was happening) with the trial in the Senate - which never happened, due to Nixon's resignation DURING the impeachment phase.
The Judiciary committee voted but the House did not. Impeachment begins with the House passing articles of impeachment.

EGGzackly... so stop calling it a crime. Right now, it's just more allegations by the Democrats who can't even figure out what to call it without turning to focus groups.

Because, there are people who know better, like those with law backgrounds, who are in a state of denial that no amount of evidence will convince. Then there are those who lead busy lives that are not really paying that much attention. But the polls show that they are slowing getting the picture, and that is how it usually works.

No, Nixons involvment wasn't absolutely indisputable, which is why he wasn't impeached until his firing of the Atty General and the Special Prosecutor.
