Of course it's nonsense, but carpe is desperate to spread the false narrative that the US is suffering worse than the rest of the world because he's hoping it will politically damage President Trump.

Oh I am definitely dedicated to spreading any true narrative that might contribute to taking Trump down on November 3. Our country deserves better than that man.

As it has already been pointed out, the US is trending slightly better, per million, than a large part of western countries are. Yet, you don’t seem to be talking about the failed leadership of Spain, Italy, or the U.K. (FYI, Germany just had a huge spike and are trending closer to much of their neighbors numbers as of now).

Meanwhile, infection in the U.S. is rampant and so far we have seen a constant stream of blame, credit-taking, campaigning, and mismanagement, punctuated by a handful of good choices and reasonable decisions.
The raw data suggest it’s spreading all over the world and has infected more in Germany than the US and Germany recently had a spike, in cases. That can’t be used to blame Trump, so we’ll ignore those details.

A person wasting brain cycles, discussion time, and/or resources on "will my name be on the check?" and "look how big my ratings are" and "you know I personally know Tom Brady" is not prioritizing well.
Says the person ignoring raw data that suggest the US is doing just fine, in the hopes he can politically damage a president he hates.

              You’re forgetting the Trump rule:

“All truth is relative, unless it politically damages Trump, than it’s absolute.”

              • Came across this article recently about an Israeli professor who has run the numbers and says that the infection rate of the China flu does not appear to be affected by mitigation efforts. He also says that the rate of infection is not exponential.

I'm going to ignore those "details" because they're complete garbage. Germany has less confirmed cases and less deaths than the US both per capita and overall. Nor has Germany had a spike in cases*.

*They have had a 'spike' in deaths over the last two days, but so has the US.

It's hard to say when exactly you'd declare the 'first' infection in any country to be (First suspected traveller to arrive infected? First official positive test? First confirmed case contracted within the country by a non-traveller? Start of the exponential increase in cases?). But I'd say New Zealand has beaten his timeline by miles due to implementing a fairly strict quarantine as soon as within-country transmission was confirmed. Three weeks later it's almost been eradicated. Only 15 new cases today, and that number's been steadily dropping over the last week.

Not only that, it seems all flu-like illnesses are seeing significant declines in incidence.

I will repeat what I have said from the outset: Trump has failed to use the authority he DOES have, especially in a time of crisis, which relates to matters that are inter-state, multi-state, and international. But "absolute authority?"

So our president leads by saying goofy stuff which needs to be walked back or nullified. That is not leadership (though it might be good enough for the Navy)

Ummm...no. I have never made that argument. This is a marvelous example of people adding to what I have said.

Some truths are relative (e.g., I am hungry). Some truths are (presumably) universal (e.g., first law of thermodynamics). Some truths are absolute (e.g., a statement cannot be true and untrue in the same way at the same time).

You can ignore them if you wish. Germany has indeed had a spike, but continues to manage the outbreak in a fashion superior to ours. You can see that in their (naive) death rate, which is now 2.8% (and climbing) while ours is at 4.4% (and climbing). They also have a lower cases per million, lower deaths per million, and their testing per million is double ours.

Anyone who can look at the data and say "the U.S. is doing just fine" is (intentionally?) blind to the data.
