The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy...returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Meanwhile, infection in the U.S. is rampant and so far we have seen a constant stream of blame, credit-taking, campaigning, and mismanagement, punctuated by a handful of good choices and reasonable decisions.

Came across this article recently about an Israeli professor who has run the numbers and says that the infection rate of the China flu does not appear to be affected by mitigation efforts. He also says that the rate of infection is not exponential.

It's hard to say when exactly you'd declare the 'first' infection in any country to be (First suspected traveller to arrive infected? First official positive test? First confirmed case contracted within the country by a non-traveller? Start of the exponential increase in cases?). But I'd say New Zealand has beaten his timeline by miles due to implementing a fairly strict quarantine as soon as within-country transmission was confirmed. Three weeks later it's almost been eradicated. Only 15 new cases today, and that number's been steadily dropping over the last week."I hate him passionately", he's "a demonic force" - Tucker Carlson, in private, on Donald Trump

Has the US peak passed? Or is this just more blind optimism*? I hope the former but expect the latter.

I will repeat what I have said from the outset: Trump has failed to use the authority he DOES have, especially in a time of crisis, which relates to matters that are inter-state, multi-state, and international. But "absolute authority?"
