                  I was talking about Israel affecting Iran's nuclear program, if, indeed, they did that.

                      Yeah, what I was getting at was that, in the past, the US would publicly condemn such actions, but privately congratulate them.

                      In fact, we often provided assistance, intelligence or whatever.

                          Generally a better option. They maintain ambiguity about their arsenal. No threats are issued with them and they have built a military strategy around conventional weapons indicating they want to avoid using them.
