I just wanted to say that I was just here at the Seminary and saw Geisler while I was here and we chatted first about the Mormons that had just left my place and then we talked about DJ's book some. I told him how DJ is constantly saying that Geisler recommends his book so I thought I'd get his response.

Geisler's response is that he does recommend it because it shows the way people turn into atheists. It's not for rational reasons. It's for emotional reasons. Just read the first few chapters and look at all that Loftus did and see what happened. It was only after the emotional upheaval came that the rational reasons followed.

And he didn't think the arguments were that good. In fact, in the review, he uses the term of "high school level apologetics." Geisler's point is that people become atheists not for rational reasons but for emotional reasons. Now I know Geisler emailed DJ with his sympathies and I'm quite sure Geisler was accurate in that. Geisler is an incredibly compassionate guy. He still wants the point to be sure. People become atheists not for rational reasons but for emotional ones.

You probably need to make this thread a sticky, Nick, so that we can find it in order to link to it every time DJ says "Geisler recommends my book!"

How about you cite the book and page number he said this on. Otherwise, I'll never believe it happened. But even if you do give a citation, I'll just call you a liar.

Buy my book, idiot!

Due to rampant stupidity by Skeptics, and time issues, I'm only going to be on TWeb in my own (tektonics.org) section from now on. Deal with it.

Once again, Holding dodges my brilliant arguments and completely missed the point.

I'm thinking of buying the book for my 16 year old nephew for his 17th birthday...

He needs something to roll his oversized weed-laced cigarettes with.

ETA: On a serious note, If I decide to read his book I'm probably just going to find it at a library or something. I don't really buy books because I seldom have any money...

"Yeah, what JB said!" - Kenny

Away in Ireland from 6 August - 20 August. Also now intermittently blogging at Iron in Fire about Christian spirituality and the Christian life.

"We cannot worship the suffering God today and ignore him tomorrow. We cannot eat and drink the body and blood of the passionate and compassionate God today, and then refuse to live passionately and compassionately tomorrow. If we say or sing, as we so often do, 'Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit', we thereby commit ourselves, in love, to the work of making his love known to the world that still stands so sorely in need of it. This is not the god the world wants. This is the God the world needs."

In that case, I'll just wait for the "Free E-Book" edition.

The amusing part is that this parody sounds somewhat like the real deal... [I'm alluding to one of my posts where I put DJ's reference to JP from a Podcast into context here]
