Yep. It's up a touch earlier than I expected, but the first Tekton E-Block is posted. This'll be a discussion thread for subscribers.

The contents:

The Prosperity Preachers Series: Joel Osteen, Part 1
-- Is this popular preacher teaching "word faith" -- or is he just, "a happy face"?

Chapter Previews: The Tale of William Tell
--From my book Shattering the Christ Myth, a chapter of the evidence for Jesus versus the evidence for a figure scholars agree did not exist.

E-Block Book Snaps:

* John Loftus' Why I Became An Atheist
* Dan Barker's Godless
* Philip Comfort's Encountering the Manuscripts
* Stanley Porter and Gordon Heath's The Lost Gospel of Judas

The Ghosts of End Times Past, Part 1: Edgar Whisenant's Rapture Recall
-- A look back at popular "end times" books of the past. This time: Edgar Whisenant's 88 Reasons Why the Rapture Could be in 1988.

It's Heretic Season!
-- Tony Burke on Modern "Heresy Hunting"

Ask the Perfesser
-- Question of the month submitted to our expert, Professor Sam Nullanvoid.

Unless the password has something to do with "WuYi Tea" and some lady named Jane losing fifteen pounds in five weeks, I don't seem to have gotten it. Sure hope it gets here soon.

The e-mail finally came through, and I really enjoyed reading this E-Block issue. The article on Burke was quite good, and thanks for including links to what Wallace and Bowman wrote. I was surprised how relatively easy you went on Osteen, but I imagine that series won't remain nice-nice for much longer. Good book reviews, too. I may have to look into someday getting Encountering the Manuscripts.

Just a little question:

JPH, do you make your living in Christian Apologetics, or is this "just" a hobby of yours?

***Rest in peace, Curtmudgeon!***

Then Morgoth turned upon Húrin, and he said: 'Fool, little among Men, and they are the least of all that speak! Have you seen the Valar, or measured the power of Manwë and Varda? Do you know the reach of the thought? Or do you think, perhaps, that their thought is upon you, and that they may shield you from afar?'

'I know not,' said Húrin. 'Yet so it might be, if they willed. For the Elder King shall not be dethroned while Arda endures.'

I was surprised too, actually. Yes, he's fluffy, but I was expecting from all other commentary to read heresy after heresy....didn't materialize. We'll see what his TV shows offer.

I've been making it my primary living for about 7 years now.

Wow, $13.50... exchange rate's dropped further than I realised!

Never mind, it's worth it. I look forward to reading the 'magazine'.

PS - it took me a while to get the subscription to work -- apparently however your subscription buttons work, is suspiciously similar to a certain type of web-forgery-technique (XSS), and so my browser kindly blocked it for me... ah, computers, think they know everying...

I see that Roger Pearse has put up a good critique of Burke's piece here.

...why do I need to give you 8 more?
1 Corinthians 9:7-9

7 Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? 8 Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? 9 For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen?

That's why, MK! (Yeah, I know you already knew that.)

JP, good stuff! I likes it.

The (but of course, I knew that before I subscribed) Curtmudgeon
