Oh, pfft. If it weren't for MY subject, the beautiful mathematics, we'd both be hitting each other up for the latest Elvis image we can paste to our various books.
Math is great!
The loves it and physics applies it..

I think that is what all the fuss is all about. No one seems to have a problem with SoR credentials.
Its not about the credentials.

My point at least, was that we should view people from the qualities of their post. If someone wants to have outside validation of their skills then they need to show it.

SM I believe posted something similar.

In SoR's case, I can tell from his posts (particularly this one http://www.atheistforums.com/theisti...ns-t15417.html ) that he knows physics.

I'm not going to say "SHOW ME YOUR DIPLOMA" or something. We are judged on our words here more than anything else. Discussion forum and all.

In my case, I am not a scientist of any stripe. I've gone to schools for electrical work and we worked on some stuff tangential to some of the higher level sciences or whatever, but any actual knowledge I can bring to a discussion is going to be regurgitated from people like stenger via my lovely google. I love google. The only person to bash me on using it to find information so far as been LPoT, so I figure I'm doing something right.

As the Shadowmaster suspected: not physics.
Just another stamp collector.
"geology" ==> You should join Glenn Morton's AGW threads. The Shadowmaster happens to know that element's credentials are loftier than these but he does not brag about them.

Anyone can be a Googler and search the web for someone else's articles.
You have nothing personal to discuss and you criticize others for offering thoughts based upon their own merit.

a strange attitude indeed.
Just as I suspected, shadowmaster is a stamp collector, without credentials nor publications.

I not only Google, but use the libraries at Duke and UNC. There is nothing wrong with Googling someone elses articles, when you establish these as reputable sources, and use them properly.

No offense shadowmaster, but you have not establish yourself as a reliable authority in any field. That is the bottom line.

We don't need to establish anyone's credentials shun.

All that matters is if we can reasonably demonstrate in onboard discussions that we aren't idiots.

Because we have access to search engines, we can quickly verify what people say. I'm not saying we need to have a treatise to prove 2+2 = 4 or some crazy bit, but as long as people, in the discussions they partake it, do not attempt to argue by saying "I'm a scientist, therefore you are wrong" but say "I'm a scientist, and here is why your wrong" or at least "I'm a scientist, if you google up these X people, you'll find that the source you linked is actually quite disputed"

Neh?

Agreed, I consider SoR as knowledgable in physics, but at present I will not cite him as an authority unless I can cite his publications.

IF you present SW as an authority greater than others here, and you did, we need credentials and documentation, which we do not have. See my previous post concerning SoR. Being idiots or not is another matter. A well published tenured professor at a major university can possibly be an iidot.

If you follow my posts, I do let the posts speak for themselves. I consider you an interesting informative Twebber, nothing else, but unfortunately some of your recent posts amount to Trooling, and they are unproductive. I am only objecting to element771's assertions of your expertise and authority above others, as he did from the original post in this thread. That, my friend, has not been reasonable established.

I do go outside, google and go to libraries for reputable and documented sources, and that should be acceptable, without accusqations of being a stamp collecter. I consider that accusation demeaning, and a misuse of stamp collectors. By the way I am a stamp collector also, and the term should not be used that way.

So post your own theories here at Theologyweb so that we can judge you by your posts.

Do you have any?

I never did that...

I said "if people want to be considered an authority, then bring out creds.

If not, then we do as we do with everyone, judge them on the quality of their posts. Which, incidentally, we still would even if someone had their masters degree linked in their sig.

Sorry, my reference was a slip.

I was referring to element771 from the first post of this thread, and made no reference to your posts. I actually agree with you, no problem.

Every once in a while, I come across someone I just like even though I may have never spoken to them before.

In Shadowmaster's case you'll never see him either.
How do you know we haven't met already?

How do you know that somewhere in the remote deserts of New Mexico, we may have not shared a "caravan" of black suburbans?

Which objections did I make and how do they misrepresent cosmology?

I'll happily accept the slating as a coin collector from you consequent-affirmers, thank you very much.

Have we had a challenger come up for shadowmaster to dispute the eternality of the Universe?
