I suggest you take this up with all those Christians who agree we are talking apes and who consider the talking snake in Genesis as similar to the talking lion in C.S. Lewis' novels.

Wow, great argument. Kudos....no really. I am being facetious.
Whether you want to admit it or not, you are a specific type of ape, and yes we can talk.

Here is your classification
K -Animalia
P -Chordata
C -Mammalia
O -Primata
F -Homonidae
G - Homo
S - sapiens

With a whole bunch of subgroups.

In all seriousness, I don't see the problem either. If we can come across some rationale to believe in God and spirits, it isn't too much of a stretch to imagine the snake was only a conduit, or a puppet.

I know. If you believe that God does magic and affects this world, what basis do you have for denying that anything happens?

I don't see it as valid since technically, we're no longer apes. We're a different species.

I'm beginning to think that you're definition of "magic" is so loose that any unusual occurrences would be "magical".
