The following suggestions were offered at the Santa Cruz town hall meeting last night (tues):
-Local elected officials should declare Santa Cruz a sanctuary for draft resisters.
-President Bush is a "madman" who should be impeached for treason and tried at The Hague for war crimes.
-Activists should stage a national strike to stop the imminent war with Iraq.
So what do y'all think about this one?

So what do y'all think about this one?
--GW should sign an executive order declaring Santa Cruz a sanctuary for ICBM testing
--Santa Cruz is full of madmen and should be sent in to the Pacific Ocean
--The Armed Forces should go on strike and see what happens to the peaceniks when they are over run by terrorists.
This is sheer lunacy! These city resolutions are a bunch of peole over reaching their power. It all boils down to city officials who are upset because their irresponsible spending policies have gotten them in trouble and so they have gone to the Federal Gov't for money over and over, so that they don't ahve to raise local taxes. But oops we still pay for these local programs through our federal tax dolalrs. They are basically a bunch of spoiled brats who aren't getting unlimited funds and so they are lashing out. That my $.02

As a former resident of Santa Cruz I think it is important to point out that the people who were most vocal were in all likely hood transients and homeless teenagers and non-resident UCSC students. Afterwords the probably all gathered out site Cafe Pergolese and smoked pot and banged (with out much rythym) on their bongos.
Santa Cruz is wacko central. Don't get me wrong, I would love to move back there (if I could afford to live there) and I relish every moment I spent there on vacation visiting my in-laws but seriously, Santa Cruz is about as reasonable as a bull dog after a porcupine attack. It's full of youthfull passion that has yet to be tempered by the experience of the real world. It is full of youthfull passion for rights which has yet to embrace the reality of it's responsabilities.
But hey, it does have the Giant Dipper so....
