We were at our daughter's house for supper last night, and the subject of The Baby™ came up, unsurprisingly.......

We discussed many things, and one of those things was, "What will the baby call us, as her grandparents?" *****

I said, "Well, I don't know if I like 'Grandma', maybe 'Grammy' would be good for me!".

And Bethany said, "You will be known as 'Listen, Lady!'. As in, 'Listen, Lady! May I please have a cookie?'"

I don't know what to think of that.........

Thoughts?

**** I use the term "girl" loosely. It might not be a girl.

I like "mossy".

Except I don't think my daughter knows me by that name.

And the grandbaby might have a "preconceived" idea then that I am old.........

In that case, the baby will have great instincts

My cousin calls our grandma "Mammy." She started that when she was just a wee toddler, you know how little tykes say things in a cute way. But the name stuck and she still calls her that to this day.

That's why I am afraid it is going to turn out as "Listen, Lady!"

"Ancient of Afternoons" might be a bit much for a little kid to learn... but given time and instruction... :haha::mossrose:

I think they'll delight in calling you "mamamossy"

i used to say 'mamama' to my nana with emphasis on the second 'ma'

make it sound italian, like Mama Mia but instead it would be Mama Mossy!!

It's all in the pitch

Thanks all for the suggestions.

When our kids were little they called us "mama" and "papa". I have a friend with 10 grandchildren who all call HER "mama", and that is so odd to me.

We will see what develops.

Congratulations Mossy on becoming a grandmother! I just turned fifty and I have seven grandchildren. The oldest is seven and he set the mark for the rest as per what to call us. He calls my wife "grammy" and he calls me "grampy". The rest have followed suit.

You can tach a child what to call you, for they repeat what they hear. As we all know, this is how we learn to talk. He/she will not refer to you as "listen lady" unless this is taught. For example, if you want to be called "grammy", just keep reitrerating this to the baby, teaching them to say the word. It is so cool the first time they say it and you will be "grammy" from then on!

Blessings,
PastorT

Thank you, PastorT!

I know my daughter was just teasing me when she said the baby would call me Listen, Lady. We had a really good laugh about it, and knew it was just silliness.

I do really like "grammy". I just don't feel like a "grandma".

How blessed you are to have 7 grandchildren! We have waited a long time for this one, our first, and are delighted by the prospect of enjoying this blessing God has given to us all!

I have a friend who would insist their kids say ma'am and sir to both them and their grandparents.

That's going a little far the other way, imo.

The exact opposite of calling them by their first names.........

Very nice, Beren, but quite a mouthful for a little person.

Hmm, they can call you "Wowza! What a lady!" for short.
