Concerning Joy . . By Ormly

For this to be understood the reader must embrace the knowledge of the scriptures that speak of son-ship in the Father Jesus reveals and Authored by His Life while upon Earth and His present residency in Glory. Seeing Jesus as “Son of man” and “Son of God” is of the utmost importance to our understanding the issue of the destiny of those that love Him and seek Him with their whole heart, soul, mind and strength.

Joy originates and is administered from the Heart of God. There can be no fellowship when there is no Joy. There can be no Joy when there is no intimacy with Him.

“Thou wilt show me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” “Whom having not seen, you love; in whom, though now you see him not, yet believing, you rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory” (Psalm 16:11; 1 Peter 1:8)

Joy happens when there is union between two people who think as one. This is true whether it is between, man and whom ever else he is in communion with, either man or God. Without a like heart, Joy will fail in its attempt to establish fellowship. Without Joy, fellowship is absent of God’s ordination. Michal gives us a brief glimpse into the Mind of God and how He viewed her heart when despising David for dancing for Joy at the return of the Ark [His Presence] to Jerusalem. Thinking David had disgraced himself, Michal's words were bitter and cutting, and she received sharpness in return for being so prudish where God and joy in the Lord are concerned. God shut up her womb to the day of her death. (2Sam. 6:21-23).

What is the substance of Joy that establishes one with God and that by the desire to be one with Him? How can this Joy be obtained unless we see God for who He is? Is it not a reciprocal of our fellowship with Him or more . . . perhaps this Joy is a result of being IN Him? “. . . and his [Solomon’s] heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father.” (1 Kings 11:4) Interesting here that, at the outset of his reign as King, Solomon prayed for wisdom whereas David prayed for His Presence. Solomon even went to a place where the Ark was not, to make his plea to the Lord.

David, a man after God’s own Heart; a type of what the normal Christian should be like, by revelation knew the Presence of the Lord. Jesus, upon His readiness to depart His Earthly life spoke thusly to His Disciples with regards to intimacy with Him as the human “Presence” of God: “These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.” Psalm 16.11; 21.6; John 15:11 He then proceeds to Calvary by way of Gethsemane where He prays: “Father, if it be thy will, remove this cup from me”. But God could not remove it. His love for His eternal intentions for Himself and those to be joined to Him as sons, centered in the Word now made Flesh, condemned Jesus to His love. In recalling the scene from the “Passion” movie where Jesus, after rising from His praying to the Father in Gethsemane, speaks these words: “My Heart is ready”. “Who for the “Joy” set before Him, He endured the cross” (Hebrews 12.2)

“For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” (Hebrews 4:15) Jesus, who would make us to understand what abiding in Him will accomplish; by realizing our being seated with Him in Heavenly places will indeed change our perspective of the cross and the whole reason for it as being the way in which joint-heir-ship can only be attained.

Paul, writing to the Christians at Rome said this: “Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death?” (Romans 6:3) When we truly understand Paul’s letters, his use of the word “death” is readily seen to mean “life”, the evidence of which is a process entered into for the purpose of becoming what Jesus was, i.e., a Son of the Father. And, given what Peter declared: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy has begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,”(1 Peter 1:3) “Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. *[Therefore] Seeing you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that you love one another with a pure heart fervently: Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which lives and abides for ever.”1 Peter 1:20-23

Though Jesus was the only begotten Son, we who are in Him are given [constrained] to become Joint-heirs with Him in His Father’s House. In our “begotten again-hood” we are appointed to learn, from the Holy Spirit, the Character of the Father and, by obedience to the Holy Spirit, enter into union with Him as “sons, brought unto Glory”. (Heb.2.10)
How to see it that it might be appropriated.

We are given to understand the issue of baptism only as it relates to the physical suffering of Jesus and how that by it, we enter into a “Reality” relationship with Him. Who can know that relationship except he understands the cross as the “way”? In this union, and by it, we will see that as well as being baptized into His death, we have also been baptized into His JOY that makes ready our heart for enduring the solicitations of the enemy to our soul. This being part of the process of becoming a son. Jesus had to protect His Son-ship that lead Him to Throne-ship whereas we are children of the Father who are given over to the tutorship of the Holy Ghost to become sons to share with Him in His Glory as in being a “joint-heir” with Him.

“My Heart is ready”. For Jesus, Son-ship is now become Throne-ship! We can not imagine such JOY given Him that day when, “. . . being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. (Lu 22.24)

(Luke 22:44) that by His consummate intimacy with the Father that which would enable Him to endure such terribleness to His body from His punishers; for those He longed to redeem and for the sake of the righteous who longed for that which only He could provide, i.e., their reconciliation with God, that God also longed for. What JOY did He own that would soon be theirs by the reality of what He was about to accomplish? He so identified with fallen man with regards to Adam’s Sin and being made equal to the Father in His Joy, saw their faith in Him would soon be made complete and by the offering of Himself, He would forever establish (Romans 5.1). Such LOVE! Such JOY! Words cannot express.

The greatness of this separation from the Father we also cannot imagine that He would send Himself cloaked in the weakness of human flesh to find and make secure that which was lost to the ultimate intention of the Father; the magnitude of it all going far beyond whatever peace there was for the righteous waiting in paradise. What trust God had in Jesus whom He knew by the Word of Himself, His very Nature given Him at birth that would sustain His Character and love to His Father. In my estimation that same JOY He experienced is that which can only make the whole armor of God effectual in our lives if we are careful to appropriate it as He lived it. “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way [JOY] to escape, that you may be able to bear it”. “. . . . . . . for the joy of the LORD is your strength”; “Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.” – that you not be weakened by idolatry - - - “Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” (1 Corinthians 10:13-14); (Ephesians 6:13) and in the standing, victory! “. . . . my head be lifted up above my enemies round about me:” against the solicitations to my soul “therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.” (Nehemiah 8:10; Psalm 27:6)

If we claim to be chosen by Him, if we claim that He speaks to us, should we expect less than what Jesus received from His accusers? How much less then is the JOY of the Lord a necessity in our daily lives that it be unto us what it was to Him, Strength and ”Glory and the lifter of my Head”!

“Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.” (Jeremiah 15:16)

“Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying of you: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all *my tribulation.” (2 Corinthians 7:4)
