View Full Version : Here's a New One For Me

I participate on several forums and on one forum I have been encountering a strange individual who definitely teaches unScripturally. For example, he claims that Jesus is physically on this earth now. He equates this with a very strange "Christ in us" juxtaposition that makes no sense. He claims Jesus ascended into heaven as a spirit creature (not all that unusual because several cults teach that as well). However the one that tops them all is his latest claim, and I quote:
"I believe the Words in the Bible are God."
Is there a technical theological term for this?
He claims to have been an ordained minister for many years but refuses to divulge who or what organization ordained him. He's secretive about his qualifications. This makes me believe he was never legitimately ordained.
He also said the following:
"When we take on the tree of 'life' by giving up the tree of 'the knowledge of good and evil', that allows us to believe we are gods, we no longer find the need to harass others."
He's never been clear as to where he is coming from but previous posts show that he believes in polytheism, panatheism and salvation by works.
But what cult believes that "the Words in the Bible are God"? That is so off the chart and one I have never encountered before. I don't even know how to respond to that since it's so ridiculous.

There's no end of weirdos in the world, and many of them have figured out how to use the internet. At some point you have to decide it's not your responsibility to respond to every skeptic and nutjob.
For this guy, I would simply assert to him that Jesus is the Word and is God, but the Bible is not "the Word of God" in the exact sense that Jesus is "the Word" and "God" both.

Feel free to visit CARM and search for posts by "lightwait" to see what I mean. The guy is well beyond the left field wall.

Sounds like you are describing "a distinction without a difference."
I don't believe that leather-bound books with ink and paper containing the scriptures are God. But the Word of God is Jesus, and is God, as 1st John 1:1-3 and John 1:1 express it.
Peace and Truth,

I don't doubt it. Don't feel compelled to engage wackos until they agree with you. Make your case once and move on.

Well, your words here are you, as far as I know you.
Likewise we can only know God by what He says in the Bible, and what He says to us directly, if we're lucky.
Doesn't seem that strange to me.

What about the 'Incarnation (http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/07706b.htm)' ?

Like I said, if you're lucky you get direct communication, like Paul did. Otherwise the Bible is probably the way most people start to know about Jesus and God, isn't it?

Lucky ? I don't believe in luck.
The Incarnation surpasses both these ideas, but does not exclude them.

How about blessed, does that work?

I don't know many Christians/believers who say that the incarnated Jesus has spoken words directly to them. How about you?
Christians usually just say they know his words as written in the Bible.
