I watched the Senate for three hours this evening on C-SPAN for three hours this eveing (boy what a loser you say). I was impressed by Orran Hatche's handeling of the situation. It appears that the Republicans are about to force the Dems to turn this into an old style filabuster and require everyone to be in the Senate Chamber (they are currently at on a quorum call).

I have several questions, such as:

Will this set a bad precident:
require a super-majority for futurre confimration?
Make filabustering a normal part of confimation hearings?
Cause a Constitutional Crisis by stripping power given over to the Executive, i.e. robbing the DOJ of it's right to client privledge as argued by the 7 living Solicitors Generals?

Those are only a few of my questions on prcedent. For those of you knowledgable in legal matters, could you explain what an amicus is and a writ of citerci (sp? I think that's what they're saying but am not sure).

PLease answer the poll as well as these questions

GP,
Yes to all those things you listed. America is no longer one country. Unless we realize that we are in a war (Cold war, so to speak), we'll perish like slow-boiled frogs.

I see America "Balkanizing" in the future, experiencing actual civil war. Tragedy.

I live in Europe and can see the grip the Left has on these people. Their hatred is growing against freedom and faith. I hardly recognize the population anymore.

Still, those on the Rght have historically been better shots...

In Christ,
Bill

I really don't think balkanization is a major threat to the US.
But, I do think this sets a bad precedent for us, and it will be unpleasant when the Republicans attempt to avenge themselves. The public, of course, doesn't care.

This whole Estrada thing makes me sick! I cannot stand liberals, especially those that are members of the Democrat party. They are blocking the nomination of someone who has the support of many, including the American Bar Association which in the past was the standard for getting confirmed or not. Democrats are a bunch of [bleeps] that are trying to force a liberal agenda down the throats of America.

Why do you think that Coservative talk shows and magazines like Rush, Hannity, Savage, and Buchanan do so well? BECAUSE MOST OF AMERICA AGREES WITH MOST OF THEIR STUFF!!! Democrats and liberals fail to see that. They fail to notice that the pendulum that drives politics is now on the back-swing towards conservatism.

This filibuster of Estrada opened a can of worms that Democrats won't be able to close again. Revenge is best served cold. Republicans will forever more block any and all liberal appointees and the day I get into the senate, I will ALWAYS, ALWAYS vote against a nominee nominated by a Democrat president.

Liberalism is dying and the Democrats are afraid. This filibuster can go on forever, I don't care. Estrada WILL be confirmed...it is just a matter of time. But the cool thing is that the liberals are hoping, PRAYING that Americans are stupid, yes, that is right, STUPID enough not to remember this when it comes to election time.

Eminem sings a song on his new The Eminem Show CD called "Say Goodbye to Hollywood. Well, the liberal Democrats better start changing that to "Say Goodbye to Washington".

if most of america believes what buchanan has to say, then America is dying. But I don't think it is so.

Deat of the West by Buchanan is a great book. Definately a real eye opener.

There's nothing as illiberal as a liberal in power.

Just FYI, I don't mean our own Liberal Party in the currently ruling Coalition with the National Party. In Australia, the Liberal Party is a rough equivalent of England's Conservative Party or the US Republicans.

If that were the case, then why hasn't Buchanan won the Presidency, considering how many times he has run for it?:hrm:

Buchanan is a protectionist isolationist, two things that most general conservatives are not.
