:teeth: Well I'm happy. Just ordered Tom Wright's new 700 page monster "The Resurrection of the Son of God." Third book in his big series. I'm kinda suprised since I thought the third volume was going to be about Paul, but whatever. It's all good. Anyone have any thoughts on Wright? I just love this guy's work. Stellar stuff.

I have read bits and pieces of his New Testament and the People of God and Jesus and the Victory of God I am waiting until school gets out to read them it seems like everytime I try to we have another assignment to do that requires a huge amount of reading. I do like Wright a lot I am weary of his ideas on Justification but I have not really studied it that much.

Yeah, his ideas on justification are pretty different, I agree. He hasn't won me over in that regard, but to be fair I'll wait till he does get his big volume on Paul done and out.

I thought in Jesus and the Victory of God he over stressed the return from exile stuff, so that everything got forced into the mold. His treatment of hte Parable of the Prodigal Son was highly problematic. Not to mention he gave Crosnan way too much credit in the history of scholarship segment.

Here is a critique of his view on justification. I've only read the first bit but thought since Blake brought it up you might find it interesting. here (http://www.banneroftruth.co.uk/articles/2002/10/wright.htm)

Howdy Pilgrim,

Cool! Thanks for the article, always good to read critques of the guys you like. I agree on the prodigal son, I felt that he tried to put too much into it. I disagree though, about the return from exile part. I think that's one of his more important insights. I'll tell you, the one area which I'm really skeptical about with Wright is in his view on whether or not Jesus 'knew he was God.' It's hard to figure out exactly what Wright means when he talks about this subject.

I got the new book a few days before Easter, and I was reading it in Starbucks. A couple of older fellows were hanging out and began to include me in their conversation. They asked me what I was reading, and I flashed them the cover. Then came an awkward silence, but the conversation progressed on other lines. After a while, one of the gentlemen admitted that my book had frightened them a little....but since I hadn't "put the witness on them" forthwith, they breathed a bit easier. From there we touched, very briefly, upon Easter itself.

I find Wright's ideas really interesting and sometimes illuminating---especially concerning the integrity of a physical resurrection. But I have to disagree with him in that he seems to reject the doctrine of Christ's righteousness imputed to us....
