Who is Mary the Mother of Jesus, to Muslims? Is she just another apostle? Is she more than an apostle? I've seen conflicting opininions and I'm curious. One thing I've read says that they devalue Mary where in another place I've read that they value her "too much."
Even as I ask this question I think the answer is "both" depending on who you ask. From the POV of a Catholic, Muslims don't value Mary enough (but neither do they value Jesus enough). From the POV of a Protestant, Muslims may value her "too much."
Thanks,
SM

Mary is the mother of the Son of God through the miracle of the incarnation. Mary was a virgin.
The gospel of Luke through an allagory depicts Mary as the Ark of the New
Covenant, since the Ark of the Covenant in the wilderness was the resting
place of YHVH on earth, Mary as the Ark identifies Jesus as He who rested in
the Ark in the Wilderness and thus Jesus is Divine , The Son of God and the
Son of Mary. Jesus was totally human and totally Divine. In the Scriptures
Mary is always associated with Jesus.

MARY IN KORAN
Add to what klodena wrote:
Mary is the only woman mentioned by name in the Koran.
There is a whole Sora devoted to Mary in the Koran.
She is the greatest woman ever walked on earth.

Tell me this, why was Mary, a Jew, chosen to bring forth a prophet of Islam if many Muslims then and now hate the Jews? Just wondering... Why wasn't it an Arab women or someone of that lineage?

Tell me this, why was Mary, a Jew, chosen to bring forth a prophet of Islam if many Muslims then and now hate the Jews? Just wondering... Why wasn't it an Arab women or someone of that lineage?Jesus was to come from a young woman/virgin whether it was a woman named Mary, Elizabeth, Sarah, Rachel etc,. And also remember the "jews" came from the House of Judah, which was but 1 tribe/nation of the original 12 tribes of Israel(which were originally all Hebrews, not jews) and it was upon that house/tribe that judgement and wrath would come upon, so it is still "symbolic". Why would anyone venerate or bow down to anyone but the Name of Jesus, true God of true God. He was born through the Holy Spirit as prophecied.
If you look at the translation of Mary itself, it means "their rebellion", referring to the jews/Hebrews of course, as most names in the bible are "symbolic titles" that have a meaning.
Mary 3137 Maria {mar-ee'-ah} or Mariam {mar-ee-am'}

AV - Mary the mother of Jesus 19, Mary Magdalene 13,
Mary the sister of Martha 11, Mary the mother of James 9,
Mary the mother of John Mark 1, Mary of Rome 1; 54
Mary or Miriam = "their rebellion"

This is also a future prophecy on the jews, as they became like unto the "Egyptians" putting the "Lost Sheep" under bondage. The study of prophecies of "Egypt" in the bible is another interesting study. The Great Day of the Lord is against the "jews" in the bible.
exodus 15:21 And Miriam answered them: "Sing to the LORD, For He has triumphed gloriously! The horse and its rider He has thrown into the sea!" 22 So Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea; then they went out into the Wilderness of Shur. And they went three days in the wilderness and found no water.
exodus 5:3 So they said, "The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Please, let us go three days' journey into the desert and sacrifice to the LORD our God, lest He fall upon us with pestilence or with the sword." 4 Then the king of Egypt said to them, "Moses and Aaron, why do you take the people from their work? Get [back] to your labor." 5 And Pharaoh said, "Look, the people of the land [are] many now, and you make them rest from their labor!"
Matthew 23:1 Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to His disciples, 2 saying: "The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. 3 "Therefore whatever they tell you to observe, [that] observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do. 4 "For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay [them] on men's shoulders; but they [themselves] will not move them with one of their fingers.

Your quotes concerning Exodus are about the Israelite deliverance from
Egypt under Moses, roughly 2,000 years before Jesus.
Mary was a special vessel prepared by God to carry the Divine Messiah of
the world. Those that have seen Mary in visitation, dreams say that she is
absolutely beautiful in inner and outer form. The exquisiteness of Mary
comes from God as the mother of the Messiah . To adore Mary is
commendable, but to ignore Jesus her child is sacrareligious. Mary is not
esteemed for being just a woman, but the mother of Jesus.:sigh:
