Greetings All in the Blessed name of Jesus!
Here is another message that I preach. It is about living in, and walking in, victory every day.
Victory In Jesus!
B.R.: Romans 8:28-39
Text: Romans 8:37, Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
Introduction: In our Bible reading tonight, we come to what I like to call the victory chapter of the book of Romans. For those of you who do not know the book of Romans, throughout this letter, Paul has been discussing the sin problem of mankind. He shows us in Chapter 1 that there was a time when men knew that there was a God, but they did not glorify him as God, nor were they thankful for the knowledge of God, but they began to become vain in their imaginations, and began to worship and serve the creature more than the Creator. So finally, Paul concludes that, “all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. There is none righteous, no, not one.” Then, in Chapter 7, he shows us the difficulty of living for God through the flesh alone, because, although God’s laws are perfect, man is sinful by nature. Paul says that he knew the law of God, he knew what he should do, but he found no power in his fleshly nature to keep the commandments of God. But in Chapter 8, Paul begins to show us a better way than merely being religious. He lets us know that, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Then as Paul approaches the end of the chapter, I can almost picture him getting a little bit excited, as he says, “If God be for us, who can be against us?” When I read this passage, I can picture a scene in heaven. God sits on his throne as the judge of the universe, and before him stands the devil, who is the accuser of the brethren. Maybe he says, “Brother so and so did this, or, Sister so and so did that!” But then Jesus, our great High Priest, our Advocate, stands up and says, “Father, that sin is under the blood!”
So the Father says, “Case dismissed! Get out of here, devil!” So Paul asks, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?” He begins to name off a number of things, and then says, “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors,” literally, we are super-victorious, “through him that loved us.” He tells us that there is nothing in this world or out of this world, nothing that is in heaven above or hell beneath, that is able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus. The devil doesn’t have the power, the world doesn’t have the power, sin doesn’t have the power to separate you from the love of God. In fact, YOU are the only one who has the power to separate yourself from God. Only if you turn away into sin, into disobedience, can you be separated from the love of God. It’s up to you. Let’s talk about the victory that we have in Jesus.
I. Victorious Over Sin
A. John 3:5, Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
B. Rom 6:1, What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
C. Rom 6:14, For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
D. 2 Cor 2:14, Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.
II. Victorious Over The World
A. John 16:33, These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
B. I Jn 2:15-16, Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
C. I Jn 4:4, Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
D. Titus 2:11, For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
III. Victorious Over The Devil
A. Luke 10:19, Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
B. James 4:7, Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.
C. 1 Cor 10:13, There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
D. 2 Cor 10:4, For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
E. Rom 16:20, And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly.
