Maybe Paul is using a similie and metaphor to make a point about why he is writing to them, and not actually claiming to be their father!

(If memory serves, Paul refers to himself as a nursing mother to the Thessolonians in 1 Thess. Do you think of Paul as someone from whom you drink mother's milk?)
