It seems like a reasonable way to make the Gospel meaningful to people with a different literacy. Yeah, I don't like the aesthetics either, but it might be good for someone else.
fwiw

I think it's pretty cool actually...
There's also a paraphrase Bible called "Word on the Street". Some of the renderings are OK, some not (Note: It doesn't represent American Hip Hop Culture, but British Hip Hop language. Think more along the lines of Ali G than Method Man)...
[Hebrews 4:12–16]
’Cos God’s Instruction Manual is vivid, vibrant, action-packed with spiritual muscle, it penetrates deeper than a Kalashnikov bullet – it gets between body and soul, gets right into your joints, your bone marrow. It susses out who’s behind all your fronts. Nothing in the cosmos can hide from God. It all comes up on his monitor screens. Everything is digitally recorded, zoomed in on, watched and remembered by God’s photographic memory. And we’ve got to stand there and explain it all in front of him!! There’ll be no bluffing.
[Matthew 7:7-12]
‘Keep on keeping on at God. Keep asking – you’ll get it. Keep searching – you’ll find it. Keep pushing the doors – you’ll get through. If you don’t ask, you won’t recognize the answer. If you don’t search, you won’t remember what you’re looking for. If you don’t push the door, you won’t know if it’s been opened.

I can see what you're saying, Guac ... but I feel very much like this is nothing more than an attempt to cash in on the Bible, using the metaphor of modern culture (and using that metaphor poorly). This does not reflect humbly waiting on God giving us what we need--this is God making us rich, fly, and big-time.
Heck, I'm surprised they didn't say "God is my pimp, and gives me bling-bling." They might have well have said just that.

Well, there are positive things about Hip Hop culture. Not all of it is "pimps" and "bling bling". That's just one segment of it. Many artists condemn that as well. Listen to the Roots, for instance.

I'm aware of the more positive side of it--esthetically hip-hop just doesn't catch my attention, but like all other music (and like the people who make it), it's a mixed bag of good and bad.
My big problem is that with the specific words used, the HHPB is appealing to the "bad" side of hip-hop. I don't know if that's an accident or not (I assume it is accidental), but even if it is an accident, more research should have been done.

Perhaps you're right. I'd have to read more of it to find out.
Anyways, for your entertainment (? ), here's a cool song (http://home.earthlink.net/~kthompsen/13%20-%20The%20Mystery%20(Who%20Is%20God-).mp3) by Rakim.

Brains taste pretty good, especially if they're rolled through beaten eggs and flour.

A civilized Zombie? Who'da thunk!
So, a nice merlot with your battered and fried brains, perhaps?

No, I don't even know what "varlet" means. I wander around saying "Bow before your master." (http://www.angelfire.com/games3/WarlordsBC/sounds/shadowd.wav)

Watch it--I have a high-level cleric character around here somewhere.
He even has his own favorite hymn: "A Grazing Mace, how sweet the sound...."
