A few days ago, I started a thread titled "Evolution vs Intelligent Design" here (Apologetics 301) but no sooner had it got under way than C.P. (on of our moderators, moved it to Natural Science 301, where as I predicted, it died a natural death, by the process known as fizzle.
No harm, for I managed to talk with some really clued-up twebbers, who quickly steered me in the right direction, and out of that I learned the following:
...thereby I concluded the potential for two...

Classical Christology has described the relationship of the two natures of Christ by using the rather arcane-sounding terms anhypostasis and enhypostasis. What does this mean? Well, firstly, the human nature of Jesus has no hypostasis, or "person", of its own, but subsists only as the human nature of the Son of God, the second person of the Trinity. His human nature is anhypostatic in that it has no personhood, or independent reality of its own (the word 'subsists' is used rather than 'exists’'...

In The Beginning by Jack Chick
Not really having come to the Lord, via any sort of Creationist route, I guess each thought is precious.
Where did this thought, about 'the beginning' originate from ? It is a wonderful thought, but why does there have to be a beginning? I realize this might seem, quite elementary for some of you, but for someone who was not raised on the Bible, those thoughts are new, and fresh and curious.
So, why this need to have a beginning. Why does it have to...

Since “this generation” is 42 years in length, and it began in June, 1967, then when will it end? From June, 1967 to June, 2009 is 42 years. Count it up for yourself! Since the Six Day War began June 5th through 10th, 1967, and we are now in April of 2010 the 42 years has been completed and we are now within the 43rd year. The 43rd year will be completed June 5th – 10th, 2010. The resurrection and rapture of God’s people should occur BEFORE THAT...

I've previously mentioned that the greatest obstacle to cutting government waste was the fact that women and minorities are a protected class. Psychic Missile and other white knights and libtards naturally acted aghast at my EEEVIL rudeness.
Now the Washington Post has pretty much openly proved one half of my argument: Women set to bear 72% of British austerity cuts:
Feminism was never about female independence. Feminism was about shifting a woman's dependence from A man to THE Man. ...

I thought you guys would find this amusing (I know I do):
LONDON (Reuters) – God did not create the universe and the "Big Bang" was an inevitable consequence of the laws of physics, the eminent British theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking argues in a new book.
It gets better:
"Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist,"...

A recent study has offered genetic evidence to help substantiate the claim that orcas (popularly known as killer whales despite being mammals and not fish) are quickly splitting into two distinct types.
One group consists of a larger form that mainly eats seals while the other is considerably smaller and primarily feeds on fish. Aside from differences in size and diet they have different markings and IIRC use different vocalizations. I think the smaller fish eaters might be more territorial...

1. What evidence do we have of divine intervention?
2. Should naturalism be taken as the default state of reality? If not, what should we put in its place?
3. What is the most effective and/or reliable method for discovering truth or reality? Things to keep in mind:
a. how far can we trust our senses?
b. how do we know what we know?
c. what is intuition?
4. If something cannot be studied by any process, does it exist?
5. What separates us from the other animals?

The aim of this thread is to delve into Einsteinisms – myths, hoaxes and realities of relativity, speed of light, classical mechanics, quantum mechanics and the ubiquitous e=mc^2.
Everyone is welcome to participate. I have found that there is a certain personality type that cannot bide any questioning of Pop-Science. So earnest is their zeal that they imagine they can contribute via insults and editorial style broadcasts about other people’s behavior.
So I have a little ‘entrance rule’ for...

This is the view that I' am defending. Most of the enigmatic statements that I make about "you are reducing God ot the level of a thing" are made considering this concept as the basis of my view.
It's the view put about by Paul Tillich, one of the major theologians of the 20th century (died 1965).
The concept is synonymous withe notion of superaessential Godhead but not necessarily to be taken as Neo-Platonic. in a nutshell the idea is this:
God is not a big man in the sky, but the basis,...

An error that drifts around Christian circles is what I call "hyper-supersessionism", which maintains that, not only is the Church the New Israel, the physical descendants of Abraham are essentially irrelevant to biblical prophecy. This is a false idea. The Church is the organic continuation of old Israel. The olive tree was not cut down and replaced, but those Jews who rejected Jesus as Messiah were cut off for their apostasy, and those Gentiles who accepted Jesus as Messiah were grafted into...

The United Pentecostal Church International, which is the largest of the oneness denominations, contends that baptism in the name of Jesus is a requirement for salvation. From their doctrinal statement: "It is true that water itself does not contain any saving virtue, but God has chosen to include it in His plan of salvation. " (1) David Bernard, the leading UPCI theologian states "Baptism is important only because God has ordained it to be so. God could have chosen to remit sin without...

Hi Geoffrey,
I still think this OP is a noble idea. However, I would like to share something with you and all the readers. For awhile now I have been praying for direction on what Father would have me concentrating on in Scripture and in knowing Him better. Being involved on this forum and a few others here on Tweb is a daunting thing to do. I see how anti-LDS battle the LDS. I see how Christians battle Christians. What are they battling? Interpretation of the very Word of God! So I...

Being the nOOb to NS301, and btw. actually enjoying it, even although you guys seem to be talking in unknown tongues (no problem, it's always like that, when one is learning a new language.)
I have been reading a post started by Shunyadragon, about Professor Behe's book 'The Edge of Evolution', and noticed that there was a seperate argument on the brew, which opened up a question, I have often wondered about. I mean I have read comments, like this before in Apologetics301, but no one really...

In Samuel 1: 4-5, the Israelites have just lost 4,000 men in battle with the Philistines. They bring the Ark of the Covenant into the camp in order to help. Unfortunately for them it doesn’t, and they lose another 30,000 men in the next battle. In the process the Philistines capture the ark.
The ark is brought home to the Philistine town of Ashod and the god of the Hebrews gets mad. He strikes the people of Ashod with what the KJV calls “emerods” (an archaic form of the word hemorrhoids)....

This is totally cool:
Science has known for some time that much of all animal life shares a genetic 'tool kit" of basic genes that produce like body parts - Pax6 genes for eyes in many distantly related species, for example.
A recent study of brain development has identified a common set of genes responsible for the development of the cortex - the part of the brain that is responsible for handling sensory input and decision making - that we share with marine worms dating back to our last...

Having followed this forum for a while, I am still very unsure about what the LDS is all about, so why not start with what the first converts thought it was all about?
According to Wikipedia:
Hancock County was created in 1825 and organized in 1829, eleven years after Illinois became a state. In 1834, absentee investors A. White and J. B. Teas platted the town of Commerce on a bend of the Mississippi River in Hancock County, some fifty-three miles north of Quincy. By 1839, the town had...

Since Glenn Morton has taken the coward's way out and decided to ban my criticism of the cherry-picked data and outright falsehoods he constantly posts, I'll just log and correct them here.
Censoring criticism is a trick he picked up from his YEC days. Just like anti-evolution sites like EvolutionFairyTales, Morton has decided the best way to deal with people who provide scientific evidence to refute his nonsense is to ban them and not allow them to speak. It's a completely craven and...

Do any LDS members feel there is a connection between false religions and Satan counterfeiting the true christian faith ? Since Satan likes to appear as a agent of good, can he also inspire men to create religious systems that appear good, but in the end is really a counterfeit of the real deal ?
I think you know the christians feelings on this in relation to the LDS religion, but do you guys feel that there are real cults that come, not from God, but are inspired from Satan ? That lead...

I am starting this thread. I want to have a rational discussion about global warming with global warming advocates. I will subject myself to the same rules as everyone else in this thread. I would ask moderators to delete such posts, even if I, in my excitement do the same thing. I really want data to be...

As an atheist, I think that religions are explicable by cultural evolution and are thus completely man made. I have been spending a great deal of time lately towards learning about Canaanite (Levant) religion. I have very far to go, but as of right now my sources include Robert Wright's The Evolution of God which then pointed me towards Israel Finkelstein's and Silberman's The Bible Unearthed: Archaeology's New Vision of Ancient Israel and the Origin of its Sacred Texts, Richard Elliot...

Yes indeed. With Trusting the New Testament winding down, it's time for me to start thinking about the next book, the yet to be titled one on the Resurrection. As before, Tekton material will be the basis for much of it, but I plan to beef it up as much as I can with any new material I can dig up.
Right now I foresee three sections.
The Ideological Case
Chapters on:
* The claim that the NT teaches a "spiritual resurrection"

Clear Evidence and Examples of Factual errors & historical inaccuracies in the Quran.
Example No. 1 - David and his sin, Biblical versus Quranic verions.
Lets look at 2 Samuel chapter 12 to look up this story (also found in sura Sad 38)
2 Samuel 12:1-10, From the Christian Bible and the Hebrew Tanakh (Scriptures)
2 Sam. 12:1 The LORD sent Nathan to David. When he came to him, he said, “There were two men in a certain town, one rich and the other poor.

According to Mormonism, Lucifer proposed to save all men by force (thus destroying their free will):
“Lucifer wanted to amend the plan. He proposed to destroy the agency of men and to save all mankind, that not one soul would be lost. This he would accomplish through outright force and coercion, denying all persons the right of choice.” (Joseph Smith, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 6, page 8.)
I was half-watching Glenn Beck yesterday and he was obviously teaching this Mormon belief - that it was...

Speaking as God, Joseph Smith gave the following prophecy:
"Doctrine and Covenants, 1981, 132:51-56"
"Verily, I say unto you: A commandment I give unto mine handmaid, Emma Smith, your wife, whom I have given unto you, that she stay herself and partake not of that which I commanded you to offer unto her; for I did it, saith the Lord, to prove you all, as I did Abraham, and that I might require an offering at your hand, by covenant and sacrifice. And let mine handmaid, Emma Smith, receive all...
